Frequently asked questions
How do I wire an LED safely?
Connect a series resistor with each LED, sized for your supply voltage and about 20 mA. The longer lead is usually the anode (positive), and the flat side of the rim usually marks the cathode.
Can I connect them directly to 5 V?
No. Without a series resistor, an LED on a 5 V supply can draw excessive current and burn out. Calculate the resistor from the supply voltage, the LED's forward voltage and the 20 mA target.
