Frequently asked questions
Can I connect it directly to a 5V supply?
No. Use a series resistor calculated as R = (Vsupply − Vf) ÷ If, where Vf is 3.2V and If is the forward current from the LED's datasheet. Without it the LED can be destroyed quickly.
Can I power it from a 3.3V microcontroller pin?
The margin is very small at 3.3V, so the LED will be dim and sensitive to voltage changes. A series resistor is still recommended, and the current should be checked against the datasheet.
