Frequently asked questions
Can it replace a logic-level MOSFET like IRLZ44N?
No. It is a high-voltage MOSFET that needs about 10 V on the gate for full turn-on, so it will not fully switch from a 5 V microcontroller pin. Use a gate driver or a suitable gate voltage.
Does it need a heatsink?
For significant power levels, yes. TO-247 is designed to be mounted on a heatsink, often with thermal compound and an insulating pad if the tab must be isolated from the heatsink.
