Frequently asked questions
Do I need a current-limiting resistor?
Yes. Calculate the series resistor as R = (Vsupply − 3.2 V) / I, where I is the forward current you choose within the datasheet limits for the LED.
Can I use it directly on a 3.3 V board?
Not without care. At 3.3 V only about 0.1 V remains for the resistor, so the current is very small and the LED will be dim. A 5 V supply gives a clearer indication with a normal resistor value.
